Bail

Legal

Privacy policy

Last updated 6 November 2026.

Bail is an app blocker for iPhone, made by Fenger Digital GmbH in Germany. It has no accounts and no server of its own, and what you lock up stays on your iPhone. That keeps this policy short.

The short version

  • No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
  • What you lock up stays on your iPhone. Apple gives Bail anonymous tokens, not a list of your apps or websites.
  • Your sentences, rap sheet and bail fund stay there too. We never receive them.
  • Payments run through Apple. RevenueCat keeps the purchase record under a random id, without your name, email or Apple ID.
  • Notifications are local. There is no push server.

Who is responsible

The controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Fenger Digital GmbH, Wiesenstraße 6, 49074 Osnabrück, Germany. For anything in this policy, write to bail@softailed.com. A person answers.

What stays on your iPhone

Bail works with Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity), with the permission you give it when you set it up.

  • What you lock up. You pick apps, categories and websites in Apple's own picker. iOS hands Bail anonymous tokens for them, and Bail stores only those tokens, never a list of names. Where the app shows an icon or a name, iOS draws it. On the shield, iOS gives Bail the name of the app or website in front of you, only to show it on that screen.
  • Your sentences. When each one starts and ends, its bail or other way out, its visits and repeats, how it ended (served, bailed out, paroled or escaped) and how often you opened a locked app. Together they make your rap sheet.
  • Your bail fund and escape markers. Bail keeps them in your iPhone's Keychain, so they survive deleting and reinstalling Bail. Erasing the iPhone removes them.
  • Your settings. Defaults, rules, language and time format.

Bail does not read your screen time, your browsing or what you do in other apps. It sends none of the above to us or to anyone else. App data in Bail's own storage is part of your normal iPhone backup, which runs under your Apple account on Apple's servers, not ours.

Notifications

Bail's notifications, such as the bail desk and time served, are scheduled on your iPhone. No push server is involved, and no notification token is sent anywhere.

Payments: Apple charges, RevenueCat keeps the receipt

Bail payments and bail fund top-ups are in-app purchases through your Apple account. Apple processes the payment, and we never see your payment details. To record and check purchases, Bail uses RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) as our processor. RevenueCat receives the purchase record (product, price, currency, time and Apple's transaction ids) and a random id created in the app, not your name, email or Apple ID. Transfers to RevenueCat are safeguarded by EU standard contractual clauses. Legal basis: performance of the purchase contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). RevenueCat's privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Refund requests

Refunds go through Apple. When you ask Apple for one, Apple may ask us about the purchase. With the consent you give when you start using Bail, RevenueCat answers for us with purchase-related information, for example that the bail was used to release your apps, and what you bought and had refunded before. Apple decides. Legal basis: your consent (art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time by email, for future requests.

Apple Ads

If you install Bail from an ad on the App Store, Apple's AdServices framework can tell RevenueCat which campaign it came from. For that, Bail passes RevenueCat the attribution token iOS provides. It needs no tracking permission and uses no advertising identifier. RevenueCat stores the campaign with the random id, so we can see which ads work. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in measuring our own ads (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

What we do not do

Bail shows no ads, contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs, and sells no data. There are no accounts, so there is no profile of you on our side.

This website

This site is plain HTML hosted by GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc., USA). It sets no cookies, has no analytics and loads nothing from other servers, fonts included. To deliver the pages, GitHub processes technical data such as your IP address, as every host does. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a working website (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). GitHub's privacy statement is at docs.github.com.

Email

If you write to us, we use your address and your message to answer you, and keep them as long as the conversation needs. Our mail runs on Google Workspace. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Children

Bail is not directed at children under 16.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict its processing, to data portability and to object (art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority.

In practice, Bail keeps your data on your iPhone, where you hold the delete key. Deleting Bail removes its data, except the bail fund and escape markers in the Keychain, which iOS keeps for a reinstall. Erasing the iPhone removes those too. For the purchase record at RevenueCat, email us and we will have it deleted.

Changes

If Bail ever changes what it processes, this policy changes before that version ships, and the date above changes with it.
